Judging Criteria:  Pure wave / 16 minute heats 
Format: Single elimination. Up to 15 waves will be scored, the top two scores count. Judges looking for power and fluidity throughout the turns and connecting sections
Wind: Light
Waves: Small but clean and peeling, up to head high

P Matos (BRA) V T Ciliberto (ITA)
Performance of the day from Pedro Matos who is surely bound for a podium before the end of the season. His stylish rise this season has been exponential and he managed to score a 9.07 ride which is incredible in the small and light conditions today, but his vision for the waves and ability to work the section and stay in it was amazing. He got the highest heat score of the day and sadly Ciliberto riding backside was out classed.
MATOS WINS: 16.47 to 6.1

HEAT 11 B
J M Riveras (DR) V K de Aboitiz (AUS)
On the water at the same time Keahi de Aboitiz once again got incredibly busy in the waves. An 8.1 and 6.43 his best two waves – both outscoring Jan Marcos, but no discredit to a rider who has competed on the GKA Tour since the very first year, but Keahi connects with this places like no other, having been undefeated in world wave competition here in five years! 14.53 is a big score.
DE ABOITIZ WINS: 14.53 to 9.97

HEAT 10 A (ROUND 2 SECOND HEAT)
F Capuzzo V O Perrineau (FRA)
Plenty of waves for those two and in the end Oscar Perrineau continues his impressive and spirited performance at this event, although his overall heat winning score was average for the day.
PERRINEAU WINS: 9.4 to 8.8

J Carew (AUS) V L Millard (AUS)
All Aussie face off here saw James Carew go through the gears here but still not reach the beat of the top few from today, as we’d see in the next heat. Solid combinations saw James comfortably through though.

Reboucas prevails with his neat backside approach

Mitu marches on with less waves than Charly but more quality.

Kiko went for it in this second chance heat and while the local rider Finou decided he was going to be more picky and choosy about his waves but in the end the numbers game won and some of the re-forms on the inside proved lucrative for the young Spaniard.

18.30 -HEAT 08 A END OF ROUND ONE
A Cozzolino (CV) V M A Beqqali (MOR)
Unfortunately for local Beqqali who came through the qualifier heat yesterday, he now went up against Airton Cozzolino who found two waves and worked them to death, multiple turns, working and re-working the white water and finding the reform on the inside, getting his fins out and more. Just total control and speed generation. He even managed a back roll within the section. Beqqali though showed that he’s going to be dangerous coming up through the double elimination because his heat score of 9.07 would have been enough to win some other heats today.
COZZOLINO WINS: 15.77 to 9.63

J Donat (GER) V P Amores (ESP)
Amores struggled in this heat with wind and scored just two waves to Donat’s six waves. A couple of 3 point waves were respectable in today’s difficult conditions.
AMORES WINS: 6.17 to 3.23

R Myerscough (CAN) V A Abaid (MOR)
What a performance from Reece here – a dedicated tour rider for the last two seasons, usually excels in strong conditions but registered amongst the highest heat scores of this sessions, breaking into the 8 point scores with one wave. Really working the wave from the outside all the way in – great control. He goes through comfortably.
MYERSCOUGH WINS: 11.4 TO 8.47

HEAT 07 B ** This heat will be re-run as the judges said there was interference because of a dropped kite from the riders in heat A
K Roig (ESP) V H Finou (MOR)
Close heat with fewer waves caught on this side of heat 7, and finally we see the Moroccan local force come through with Finou picking out two waves from four to total 5.47 points and just edge out one of our regulars, Kiko. Very technical out there and the top top guys make it look a bit easier than it obviously is.
FINOU WINS: 5.47 TO 3.72

J M Riveras (DR) V A Bentajar (MOR)
Experience and quality gave the judges what they were looking for in terms of linking the sections and being able to stay connected with the wave for much longer by JMR.

N Abadjiev (BUL) V K de Aboitiz (AUS)
Nicola Abadjiev is a very capable kiter and a regular on tour the last two years, but he was up against probably the most efficient kiter in the world when it comes to light wind wave riding. Keahi managing to work waves all the way to the inside, through a mixture of rapid speed development for his turns, stalling the tail to not outrun the small sections and using the kite to pull himself up the foam balls to then drop back down and create a better speed connection with the wave. Very impressive.

An absolute lesson dished out here by the Brazilian – if you’re looking at his two best wave scores of 8.43 and 7.93 you may think that he must have been riding in epic conditions! The reality it’s super light wind and should high at best… but it’s clean and Pedro gave justification for the green light to go on for this heat because he kept in the pocket and proved just what can be done with modern, efficient wave kiting equipment. Inspiring!

In this the other half of heat 5 (on the water at the same time), things were a little less classy for the Italian but he did enough over a new German entrant into this event.
