The competition is done for the day and late this afternoon we pushed through the remaining heats of round one and are now halfway through the men’s single elimination round two. The conditions were super marginal, but it was quite amazing to see the performances that the top guys were still able to squeeze out of their gear and the spot!
Stand out performance was from Brazilian Pedro Matos in the last heat of the day, scoring a nine for one of his waves, demonstrating how to blend great wave reading with the utility of generating power with a kite. The point at Westpoint pitches waves that peel for long rides. If riders could stay in the section and show the judges how much control they had to manage their speed there were some good scores on offer. Keahi de Aboitiz and Airton Cozzolino also stood out today.
