Format: Dingle elimination. Men’s winners from round one advance to round 3, second and third placed riders compete in round 2
Wind: 18 – 20 knots

16.20 – R1 HEAT 7 Cancelled due to dropping winds. That’s it for today, we’ll be back tomorrow morning! 

16.05 – R1 HEAT 6: GABRIEL GALINDO (BRA) / XAVER KIEBLER (GER) / KARIM MAHMOUD (EG) /  LIAM WHALEY (ESP)
Lighter winds again hampered the absolute top performances in this heat, but it was local rider Galindo who was perhaps surprisingly leading ahead of Liam Whaley after six tricks. Liam had just three tricks in his score with two trick attempt left, though. He went for a relatively safe nose grab slim 5, which he managed to land well in light winds and that important fourth trick put him 8.25 points ahead of the local who couldn’t catch him. Liam won with one trick attempt in his pocket. Nevertheless the local Galindo goes through strongly in second.

Karim Mahmoud from Morocco has been a regular on tour this year, but he went down to Kiebler from Germany who put pressure on the younger Moroccan by continually landing most of his tricks and putting the ball back in Karim’s court.

15.40 – R1 HEAT 5: V EMANOEL (BRA) / JOAO LUCAS (BRA) / ERICK ANDERSON (BRA) /  GIANMARIA COCCOLUTO (ITA)
Lighter winds with riders on 13m kites, but nevertheless more Brazilians ready to make a name for themselves at home!
Gianmaria Coccoluto (who has slipped to sixth in the rankings) made his way safely through, explosive and sure. A heart attack 5 for 8.5 points was absolutely massive off the right foot kicker on the way out.
Erick Anderson finally pulled his heat together after a shaky couple of tricks early on and pushed Gianmaria at the top very tightly; Erick also breaking into the 8 point trick score zone for a slim 7 scoring 8.2.
Emmanuel pulled through in third, landing six of seven tricks, but not enough height and power too threaten the top two, but he progresses to round two.
New rider, 16 year old Joao Lucas, who came through the Duotone Grom Search recently, was going for some of the hardest tricks on tour, including a hinterberger 7 where he very narrowly just missed the bar. That would have been a huge score, but sadly he couldn’t do enough to go through.

15.10 – R1 HEAT 4: ERISVERTON RIBEIRO (BRA) / JACK REIDER (CAN) / KALU DE SOUSA (BRA) / VALENTINE RODRIGUEZ (COL)
First sighting of one of the main two contenders for the World Championship crown, 17 year-old Val Rodriguez made no mistakes, getting the highest trick score of the day with his third trick – a slim 7. He bettered that on his next trick: 8.77 for a KGB7 the benchmark so far. Look out for Ribeiro riding again in round two, for my money the most stylish new local we’ve seen today. Going super huge on some tricks, especially his KGB on trick five.
The battle to remain in the contest was between Brazilian de Sousa and Canadian Reider. Both riders with some good tricks. They traded third and fourth position for the last few tricks but it was de Sousa who finally edged it with a 5.87 for a backside 315 which he just squeezed in before the buzzer!

14.40 – R1 HEAT 3: BRUNO VASCONCELOS (BRA) / MANOEL SOARES (BRA) / ALEX NETO (BRA) / JUAN RODRIGUEZ (COL)
Big Brazilian match-up here with Colombian tour regular and hot performer Juan Rodriguez sandwiched in between. Alex Neto is the more famous Brazilian name having competed successfully on tour prior to this year for several seasons, claiming a handful of podiums. However it was Soares who was leading the way for most of the heat, the F-One rider carrying a backside 317 as his best trick for 7.93.
Tour regular Rodriguez safely stays in the competition finishing third, a large margin ahead of Vasconselos who is eliminated.

14.10 – R1 HEAT 2: FRANCISCO PEREIRA (BRA) / MAXIME CHABLOS (CV) / JAM BURGDORFER (DE) / NELSON GOMEZ (COL)
Three good tricks from three attempts put the mid-season tour leader Maxime Chabloz in front here with his first trick, a backside 317, doing the most damage for 7.73 points. New rider Bergdorfer showed some good mid-scoring tricks throughout and that consistency kept him in second. Brazilian Pereira missed the velocity on several of his tricks while Nelson was frustrated because he landed nearly every trick, but missed the bar several times.
Maxime was beyond reach in first position with one trick to go, having racked up a backside 317, front blind mobe, backmobe 5 and heart attack 7.

13.40 -R1 HEAT 1: LUIS ALBERTO CRUZ (DR) / LOUKA PITOT (FRA) / DAVI RIBEIRO (BRA) / D PETERSON (GER)
So, who’s up for competing against an unknown 11 year-old in your first heat? Cruz, Pitot and Peterson had that to chew on in the opening heat here! Davi slotted some nice tricks, including backside 313, raley to wrapped and heart attack frontside 3.

It was Louka Pitot who took the heat win, but we will see Davi again in round two along with Cruz. Sadly Peterson is out already.
