LIVETICKER –  Day 5: Tuesday, 6 June (GMT+2)

19.06 Men’s TT Final Lorenzo Casati v Andrea Principi v Giel Vlugt v Cohan van Dijk. Principi wins on equal points with Cohan van Dijk takes the win on countbacks. Principi is world champion for the second successive year.

18.15 M Surfboard Final James Carew v Marc Garriga v Kiko Roig v Keanu Merten. James Carew takes the win, with big scores. but then injures himself in the shallows celebrating. Garriga second and Roig third.

18.05 M TT SF4 Liam Whaley (ESP) v Cohan van Dijk (NED). What a heat and what an upset. Cohan van Dijk ends Whaley’s  world title dreams to take the win and a berth in the final.  Under pressure, Whaley crashed several times as he chased Van Dijk’s double kite loops.

17.50 M TT SF3 Giel Vlugt (NED) v Josué San (BRA). Vlugt wins with big scores and a 23.74 total as San cannot really pull it together.

17.40 M TT SF2 Marc Jacobs (NZL) v Andrea Principi (ITA). Principi looks like he is the man to beat right now. After Jacobs came out of the blocks to lay down some big scores, Principi was just relentless throwing down three 9+ scores to make a total of 27.33, easily the day’s highest heat score. Even Jacobs got a 25.01 total.

17.24 M TT SF1 Jeremy Burlando (ESP) v Lorenzo Casati (ITA). Casati comes from behind to win the win with the highest score of the event so far, 26.77. After a shaky start he landed three massive 8+ scores. Burlando also got a huge 24.67 that also included two eight. What a heat.

17.17 M SB R3 H4 SF Javier Lopez (ESP) v Marc Garriga (ESP). Garriga, one of the wilds card in the event, has gone massive to take the win and advance to the final. Gaggiga scored a massive 8.12 for a contra loop back roll board off.

17.04 M SB R3 H3 SF Noah Nicolas (FRA) v Keanu Merten (GER). Merten wins with three solid sixes as Nicolas only gets two scores on the board.

16.53 M SB R3 H2 Semi-final Kiko Roig (ESP) v Lorenzo Casati (ITA). Roig wins as Casati, up shortly in the TT semi-finals, could only put one score on the board.

16.40 M SB R3 H1 Semi-Final James Carew (AUS) v Camille Delannoy (FRA). Carew won the heat with two big 7+ scores, one for a contra loop back roll board off that gave him 19.44.

16.23 M TT R3 H8 QF Liam Whaley (ESP) v Jason vd Spuy (RSA). Whaley takes the win with a couple of huge double loops, one of which netted him 8.03 to take his total to 23.63. That despite a huge crash by Whaley, which sees him in the semi-final.

16.11 M TT R3 H7 QF Cohan van Dijk (NED) v Stino Mul (NED). The heat of the day so far with Van Dijk on fire. Three massive 8+ scores, two for double kite loops, a front roll and a back roll that gave him 25.03. Enormous.

15.56 M TT R3 H6 QF Giel Vlugt (NED) v Michiel Schipper (NED). Vlugt easily takes the win with two 8+ scores with several double kite loops that took his heat score to 22.86 as the wind is gusting to 38kts.

15.40 M TT R3 H5 QF Aaron Hadlow (GBR) v Josué San (BRA). Shocker. Hadlow out after San scored a massive 7.5 for his last trick to oust the veteran Brit by just 0.19 of a point. When Jacobs beat Overbeek it seems as the Olg Guard might be about to strike back.

15.30 M TT R3 H4 Andrea Principi (ITA) v Timo Boersema (NED). Reigning Big Air world champion moves forward with three big scores that included a contra loop front roll tic-tac to bring his total to 21.44. 

15.15 M TT R3 H3 QF  Jamie Overbeek (NED) V Marc Jacobs (NZL).  Big upset as Jacobs clinches it at the death in his last trick of the heat. He switched kite for double loops in the mid-heat that was just enough to get a 7.63 right at the end.

15.00 M TT R3 H2 Quarter Finals Lorenzo Casati (ITA) v  Kimo Verkerk (NED). Casati just does enough to win  by less than one point with a total of 20.03. A close call for the Red Bull King of the Air.

14.48 M TT R3 H1 Quarter Finals Luca Ceruti (RSA) v Jeremy Burlando (ESP). Huge heat from Burlando with three 8+ scores that took him to the day’s highest heat total for 24.20. It’s on.

14. 31 M SB R2 H4 Nicola Abadjiev (BUL) v Javier Lopez (ESP). Lopez takes the win with big scores including a 6.10 for a kite loop back roll board off that he landed with one foot on the board.  His heat total was 16.86.

14.22 M SB R2 H3 Leonardi Casati (ITA) v Noah Nicolas (FRA). Nicolas wins with a big score of 16.40 that included a 5.80 for a kiteloop rodeo front roll.

14.20 M SB R2 H2 Kiko Roig gets a bye after Airton Cozzolino is out through an injury he picked up in Cape Verde.

14.12 M Surfboard R2 H1 James Carew (AUS) v Hendrick Lopes (SUI). Carew gets the win easily over Lopes with 17.36 total score.

13.59 M TT R2 H8 Jason vd Spuy (RSA) v Nicolas Gambier (BRA). Van der Spuy gets the win with big scores, including 7.27 that took his heat total to 20.44 and a convincing victory.

13.45 M TT R2 H7 Karim Mahmoud (EGY) v Stino Mul (NED). Mul gets the win with three solid scores to take his total 19.66 and advance to round 3.

13.30 M TT R2 H6 Beto Gomez (COL) v Michiel Schipper (NED). Schipper wins.

13.20 M TT R2 H5 Josué San (BRA) v Valentin Hoenderop (ESP). San takes the victory when he turns it on in the middle of the heat, coring big with a 7.57 for a kite loop front roll board off to. take his total to 20.84.

13.05 M TT R2 H4 Stig Hoefnagel (NED) v Timo Boersema (NED). Boersema takes the win just by less than one point in the battle of the Dutchmen. Boersema changed down to a 5m kite and threw in a couple of double kite loops, one of which he crashed heavily. 

12.50 M TT R2H3 Marc Jacobs (NZL) v Carlos Ramirez (COL). Jacbos takes the win to advance to round 3 laying down three bis sixes to take his total 20.0.

12.37 M TT R2 H2 Kimo Verkerk (NED) v Lucas Gramstrup (DEN). Verkerk wins comfortably with a score of 20.07.

12.22 M TT R2 H1 Luca Ceruti (RSA) v Arthur Guillebert (FRA). Ceruti plays with fire and just squeaks it against former world champion Guillebert. The riders on 9m kites are going massive now and Ceruti scores 7.07 for a kite loop front roll board off and the win with 19.87.

12.17 Next up is the men’s Twin-Tip round 2.

11.35 Women’s Final. Mikaili Sol (USA) v Zara Hoogenraad (NED) v Nathalie Lambrecht (SWE) v Angely Bouillot (FRA). The wind is currently 30kts to 34kts. The women are on 7m and 8m kites. Sol takes the win, with Lambrecht 2nd, Hoogenraad 3rd and Bouillot 4th. That gives Sol the World Champion title for the second year in succession. Now a seventh world title for the 18-year-old. All that despite a huge “caner”, as Lewis Crathern would say, as she crashed on a double mega loop attempt on the 6m kite late in the heat. Fortunately, she was rode away.

11.17 TT R3 H4 Justine Avril (FRA) v Mikaili Sol (USA). Sol steps it up to control the heat comfortably on her 7m kite in gusts of 38kts. She lands a big kite loop front roll board off for 7.30 that seals the deal and take her to the four-berth final. Her heat score of 20.83 gives her the win.

11.02 TT R3 H3 Alice Ruggiu (ITA) v Angely Bouillot (FRA). Bouillot goes absolutely massive and puts some of the biggest scores so far on the board with 7.80 for a kite loop back roll that took her total to 20.87. Her last trick was was a vast kite loop board off for 8.20 to take her total to 23.17.

10.46 TT R3 H2 Alessa Mensch (GER) v Nathalie Lambrecht (SWE). Lambrecht on an 8m kite in 31kts to 34kts takes the win with a big score including a 6.87 kite loop front roll for a total of 16.57.

10.37  TT R3 H1 Zara Hoogenraad (NED) v Nora Klement (DEN). Hoogenraad just takes the win in another tight heat. The Dutchwomen put solid scores on the board early, with a 5.53 for a kite loop back roll. Klement had a really good go on her 7m kite the breeze that has dropped slightly to 30-32kts.

10.20 W TT R2 H4 Sarah Sadek (EGY) v Justine Avril (FRA). Avril just takes it at the death after a super-tight heat. Her 4.87 for a kite loop back roll gave her a total of 13.74 against the Egyptian rider’s 13.54.

 10.18 The postponement flag is about to come down and we’ll get back to competition shortly.

10.05 We’re still on hold as Martyna Konkel gets medical attention and is on the way to the hospital with the doctor. So, we’re just waiting for another doctor to be on site. But the riders on the beach are chilling, wearing ski goggles against the sand blowing on the beach with winds 31kts to 34kts right now. The women are 6m and 7m kites. 

09.46 W TT R2 H4 Sarah Sadek (EGY) v Justine Avril (FRA) coming up.

09.35 W TT R2 H3 Martyna Konkel (POL) v Alice Ruggiu (ITA).  Konkel takes a hard crash and heavy landing. The jetski is on the course rescuing her and her kite. The medical team are looking at her. She’s on a 6m kite. The postponement flag is up. The wind is now 30kts to 35kts. But that gives Ruggiu the win with 7.03 total. The Italian rider is a late stand-in after the selected Michaela Pilkenton dropped out.

09.17 W TT R2 H2 Francesca Maini v Alessa Mensch. The unseeded Mensch advances, after a strong heat including a 4.97 for kite loop front roll, travelling 36 metres from a height of 8.4 metres. Maini couldn’t quite put it together and suffered a few crashes that sealed her fate.

09.03 W TT R2 H2 Nora Klement v Jasmine Cho. Wind is up to 31kts-34kts. Cho is struggling to put some scores on the board. The unseeded Klement is landing some solid tricks and building a decent total. Klement wins wins with 12.47, including a kite loop one footer for 4.87. Klement has the dubious pleasure of facing Zara Hoogengaard next.

08.45 So, it’s women’s TT round 2 up first with FPS at 09.00. The men’s TT round 2 is set to begin around 11.30. Wind’s still pumping. We’re up to 28kts-31kts now. 

08.22 Hold on to your hats. It’s going to be a big one. The Levante is now already cranking 27kts to 30kts.

07.40 Good morning. Welcome everyone to what’s certain to be a huge day. The riders’ meeting is set for 08.00. We’re looking at a First Possible Start at 09.00. It will likely be the women’s Twin-Tip Big Air up first. We’re into round two and things are starting to get real. The losers of the two-rider heat will be going home. The Levante is in and it’s already blowing 24kts-26kts.

21.20 That’s a wrap for day. We’ll be back bright and early for the conclusion of the Big Air world championships in Twin-Tip, and men’s Surfboard.

21.03 M TT R1 H8 Liam Whaley v Karim Mahmoud v Stig Hoefnagel. Whaley wins with a massive heat and some of the biggest scores of the day ensuring he goes straight to round three.

20.50 M TT R1 H7 Cohan van Dijk v Marc Jacobs v Nicolas Gambier. Van Dijk just edges out Marc Jacobs. It was a 7.27 for a contra loop front roll board off that did the damage.

20.42 M TT R1 H6 Giel Vlugt v Valentin Hoenderop v Kim Verkerk. Giel Vlugt wins with 17.27 with two big sixes that included kite loop back rolls and front rolls with board offs.

20.23 M TT R1 H5 Aaron Hadlow v Michiel Schipper v Luca Ceruti. Hadlow takes the win with a big heat that included a contra loop front roll tic tac. he was riding an 8m kite for the victory in about 25kts of wind.

20.09 M TT R1 H4 Carlos Ramirez v Jason van der Spuy v Andrea Principi. Princip was on fire and wins with 20.44 and two the biggest scoring tricks of the day.

19.50 M TT R1 H3 Timo Boersma v Stino Mul v Jamie Overbeek. Overbeek wins the heat with a score of 21.30, with one jump of 13.8 metres high, travelling 86 metres.

19.35 M TT R1 H2 Beto Gomez v Arthur Guillebert v Lorenzo Casati. Casati wins with 20.04, including a 6.73 with a kite loop front roll tic tac.

19.00 M TT R1 H1 Luca Gramstrup v Josué San v Jeremy Burlando. Burlando  wins with a big 22.00 score.

18.47 W TT R1 H4 Alessa Mensch v Alice Ruggiu v Mikaili Sol. Sol wins with you 16.63 heat total.

11.45 Good morning. The riders’ briefing is set to begin shortly, at 12.00. The first possible start for the Twin-Tip Big Air contest is 14.00. The plan is that the first round of the women will be up first, with men’s round one following. The men’s Surfboard fleet, which completed their its round on Friday, has been released for the day.

12.15 Riders released for the day. The race director decided that the wind is not strong enough to continue the men’s Big Air Surfboard competition. Next call is 16.00 on Sunday, 4 June, when the situation will be assessed again.

“Green” light called for Twin-Tip Big Air competition for Monday, 5 June. Registration for Twin-Tip will run from 10.00 to 11.00, with the Twin-Tip riders’ briefing at 12.00. First possible start for all disciplines, men’s Surfboard and men’s and women’s Twin-Tip, is 13.00.

19.01 R2H1 Kesiane Rodrigues (BRA) V Mikaili Sol (USA). We are back on the water as the wind picked up a little. After the women held a meeting the feeling was that the weather forecast for the coming days is uncertain and they wanted to give it a go. Sol advances to the final.

17.18 Women’s Surfboard R1H3 Zoe Bazile (FRA) V Kesiane Rodrigues (BRA). Bazile wins with a heat total of 7.70. But now the postponement AP flag is up again.

17.08 Women’s Surfboard R1H2 Camille Losserand (SUI) V Sofia Monti (ITA). Losserand wins easily with three good scores and focused riding.

17.02 We’re back with R1H1 of the women’s Surboard. Sol does enough to take the win.

16.15 Women’s Surfboard R1H1 Mikaili Sol (USA) V Barbara Sgardello (ITA). The women are on the water, but the wind has to about 15kts. And the heat is abandoned, presumably because the wind dropped.

13.50 The break is longer than anticipated as we wait for the wind to pick before running the opening round of the women’s Big Air Surfboard. First up will be Barbara Sgardello (ITA) against Mikaili Sol (USA). The wind is still around 20kts.

12.30 There’s a 30-minute break now as we wait for the wind to pick up a little bit more. It’s around 20kts now, with the gusts up to 23.6kts. The water is flat with some small kickers on the inside, in the shallows near the beach. We’ll start with Women’s Big Air Surfboard shortly.

11.57 Hydrofoil final up next after a short break to resolve some Livestream technical issues. Charles Brodel (FRA) V Jamie Overbeek (NED) V Joselito del Rosario  (DOM) V Maxime-Luan Desjardins (FRA). Brodel took the win with a big total of 22.80 for his three tricks, including 7.80 for a contra loop front roll board off for back-to-back Big Air titles. He squeezed out Jamie Ovebeek into second after the Dutch rider crashed several times chasing the game.

11.47 Hydrofoil R3H4 Charles Brodel (FRA) V Hunter Becker (USA). Brodel through to the final with heat score of 20.48 and few big tricks.

11.45 Hydrofoil R3H3 Alex Soto (DOM) V Joselito del Rosaria (DOM). Del Rosario takes the win with three solid scores.

11.30 Hydrofoil R3H2 Jamie Overbeek (NED) V Joppe van de Poll (NED). Overbeek wins with with a total of 21.74 and a 7.74 for kite loop front roll board off.

11.16 Hydrofoil R3H1 Finn Flügel (GER) V Maxime-Luan Desjardins (FRA). Desjardins takes the win with a total of 15.68.

11.06 Hydrofoil R1H4 Charles Brodel (FRA) V Joppe van de Poll (NED). Brodel shows why he’s world champion laying down with three big scores, including a kite-loop back roll board off for 7.84 to take the win.

10.50 Hydrofoil R1H3 Joselito del Rosario (DOM) V Finn Flügel (GER). Del Rosario takes the win with three consistent 5+ scores on the board.

10.35 Hydrofoil R1H2 Hunter Becker (USA) V Jamie Overbeek (NED). Overbeek opens with a big kiteloop front roll that earns 6.68 points. The wind is hovering at 18 to 19kts. Overbeek takes the win.

10.10 Hydrofoil R1H1 Maxime-Luan Desjardins (FRA) V Alex Soto (DOM) is on. The riders have seven trick attempts with the best three scores counting. Each will get 30 seconds to attempt the trick. The transition time between heats is three minutes. Desjardins just squeezes the win, a big contraloop front roll just making the difference.

09.58 At the moment we are on hold. We will be starting again shortly with R1H1 of Hydrofoil. Livestreaming will start from Round 2.

08.24  Good morning. The riders’ meeting is set for 09.00 with the first possible start at 09.30. The race director decided Hydrofoil is first on the water to kick-off the action. The wind forecast has firmed up a little overnight, and already there is 15kts.
