New GKA year slated to have nine events with new locations joining seasoned favourites

The GKA Kite World Tour is set to launch into a new year in 2025 with fresh destinations on the roster, joining old favourites that have become annual fixtures on the kiteboarding calendar.

Four Freestyle events are slated for 2025, along with four Kite-Surf calls. Hydrofoil Big Air is set to enjoy renewed emphasis with three stops on the cards, a reflection  of the growing appeal of kite hydrofoiling for Big Air in lighter-wind destinations.

Big Air TwinTip will close out its year and crown new world champions at Lords of Tram in Barcarès, France, with a competition window that will remain open for most of April to capitalise on the best wind.

Lords of Tram will be the second event of the 2025 season, which opened in Jericoacoara, Brazil, in November, when France’s Edgar Ulrich won, along with Brazil’s Mikaili Sol, who returned to competition with a bang.

The legendary surf break of Ponta Preta, on Cape Verde’s Sal island, is set to kick off the season in  mid-February with the Kite-Surf discipline. Last season’s stop served up the best conditions ever witnessed in competition.

The northern German island of Sylt and Dakhla in Morocco are again in the line-up, with the Brazilian kitesurf spot of Ibiraquera returning for a second year after an epic debut in 2024.

The Freestyle year is set open the fresh location of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in April, before moving on the Fuwairit, Qatar, in May.  Dunkerque, in northern France, again makes an appearance in August, with Brazil’s CearΓ‘ state set close the year in November.

The expanded Hydrofoil Big Air season is scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi in April, in a double header with Freestyle. Sylt, which last year delivered anything but light winds, will close the season and crown the Hydrofoil Big Air world champions.

It is bound to be another unforgettable year. Stay up to date with the schedule here.
