The GKA is excited to unveil a groundbreaking new Big Air kiteboarding team competition, the GKA Big Air Challenge 2025, in collaboration with WOO Sports’ popular WOO sensor.
Teams of riders, which may be made up of professionals and amateurs, will battle in Cape Town, South Africa, for glory. The highest jumps of the top five riders during the week of 2 to 9 January, 2025, will be combined, with the biggest team total getting the win.
Any rider can upload his or her WOO session from the Western Cape, South Africa, during the competition window. The rider will then be automatically allocated a team based on the kite brand ridden and registered on the WOO platform.
The competition will be staged in the week before the Qatar Airways GKA Awards at Cape Town City Hall, on 10 January. During the gala evening the winning team will presented with a trophy that they keep for a year.
The top five riders from the winning team will also be awarded WOO sensors. The top five riders from the second and third placed teams will win free entrance to the Qatar Airways GKA Awards evening and the After-Party.
Highest jumps counting
The highest registered jumps of all the brand team’s members will be visible on the WOO App scoreboard, with the top five highest jumps counting to the total when the window closes at 15.00UTC on 9 January.
Riders will be able to use their own WOO sensors, or demo devices will be available for pick up in Cape Town between and 1 and 3 January from the GKA or WOO teams.
Additionally, demo WOO devices will be available for day-long demos on a first-come, first-served basis at The Brand Stable (4 Blaauwberg Road, Table View, Cape Town, 7441) for any kiter interested in participating.
All kite brands are invited to take part, including non-GKA members.
WOO has become the new partner of the GKA Kite World Tour in the Big Air discipline, and for the coming year WOO data will be integrated in the Livestream of GKA Big Air events to enhance the viewer experience.
