Day 8: 26 Oct, 2024

13.34 That’s from Brazil for the final event of the Kite-Surf season. Gabriel Benetton wins his first world title on home soil. His girlfriend Capucine Delannoy took the women’s title a few days ago. Congratulations to the golden couple.

13.10 M Final. Gabriel Benetton v Matchu Lopes. Lopes wins the final which was a banger, just easing past the new world champion, Benetton. Lopes’s 14. 76 was just ahead of Benetton.

12.42 M Mini-Final. Artur Morais v Guilly Brandao. Brandao wins in a thriller. Both got huge scores with their final wave, but Brandao had it with 15.26 heat total.

12.05 M R5 H2 / SF2 Matchu Lopes v Guilly Brandao. Lopes takes it with huge backside riding to get the win over Brandao. Lopes goes to the final where he faces the new world champion, Gabriel Benetton.

11.37 M R 5 H1 / SF1 Artur Morais v Gabriel Benetton. Benetton wins and becomes the 2024 Qatar Airways GKA Kite-Surf World Champion crowned on home waters.

11.15 M R4 H4 QF4 Guilly Brandao v Airton Cozzolino. Huge upset as Cozzolino goes out and with it his world championship hopes are much diminished. Brandao surfed the brilliant heat to got the semi-final.

10.55 M R4 H3 / QF3 Matchu Lopes v Pedro Matos. Big win for Matchu Lopes who was on fire. He got the biggest heat score of the comp so far, 16.73. Matos went hard but came up just short.

10.30 M R4 H2 / QF2 Theo Demanez v Gabriel Benetton. Benetton gets the win with a 13.53 heat total and advances of Demanez.

10.05 M R4 H1 / QF1 Charly Martin v Artur Morais. Morais is the first to book his place in the semi-final when he gets the better of Martin.

09.40 M R3 H8 Airton Cozzolino v Woodley Hall. Cozzolino is just too powerful for Hall and he goes to the quarter-final with a big 13.54 total for his two counting waves.

09.18 M R3 H7 Guilly Brandao v Hugo Marin. Bradao uses his experience and local knowledge to the full, to go forward to the quarter-final. He ends the run of Marin.

08.55 M R3 H6 James Carew v Pedro Matos. Huge heat right now. Big, big heat as Matos takes the win. He did all the work early in the heat, putting Carew out of the competition. Matos is still in the title race, but two-event winner Carew is almost out of contention. Amazing heat.

08.30 M R3 H5 Clement Roseyro v Matchu Lopes. We switched to a new site to the north in Ibiraquera. Now the waves a right-handed in his break, mixing things up. Lopes heads for R4 with a 16.20 heat total and a big 8.6 wave. Lopes was charging the waves and the judges loved his verticality which was just too much for Roseyro.

07.00 Good morning. This is it. The closing day of the 2024 season when we’ll crown our men’s and women’s world champions. We have only the men’s event to close out, with Capucine Delannoy already landing the women’s 2024 world title. The plan is to hold the skippers’ meeting at 07.30 with a FPS for the men’s R3 H5, running to the men’s final. We switched sites as the went south yesterday. Stay tuned.

10.45 Good morning. The riders’ briefing is set to start at 11.00, with a first possible start at 11.30. The wind changed direction and we moved to a new event site.

15.10 M R3 H5 Clément Roseyro v Matchu Lopes.

14.55 M R3 H4 Gabriel Benetton v Simao Bilro. Benetton wins with a heat total of 11.44 over Bilro.

14.46 M R3 H3 Sebastian Ribeiro v Theo Demanez. A huge upset as Demanez has taken down Ribeiro. Demanez big 7.60 wave score did all the damage, but it was super-tight.

14.38 M R3 H2 Artur Morais v Kelton Lopes. The Brazilian Morais takes the win and ends the run of the Cape Verdean, Lopes.

14.29 M R3 H1 Charly Martin v Hendrick Lopes. Martin advances with a good total of 13.93 while that’s the end of the road for Lopes.

14.21 M R2 H8 Luca Duffin v Woodley Hall.  Hall gets the win and advances while countryman Duffin is out.

14.10 M R2 H7 Hugo Marin v Marcelo Paraizo. Marin takes the win with a solid wave score toward the end of the heat. Paraizo is out.

14.04 M R2 H6 Pedro Matos v Cristino Roehe. Matos gets the win with some great backside riding as the wind is picking  up. We’re up to 23kts now. Matos’ win sets up a match with James Carew in the next round.

13.55 M R2 H5 Matchu Lopes v Everton Martins. Lopes takes the win with some of the biggest wave scores of the comp so far. 

13.45 M R2 H4 Simao Bilro v Nicola Abadjiev. Bilro gets the win and advances.

13.40 M R2 H3 Theo Demanez v Luiz Sousa. Demanez wins with big 13.14 heat total.

 13.30 M R2 H2 Kelton Lopes v Douglas Juliani. Lopes takes the win over Juliani.

13.20 M R2 H1 Hendrick Lopes v Leonardo Grangneiro. Lopes gets the win and that’s the end of the road for Grangeiro.

13.00 M R1 H8 Marcelo Paraizo v Simao Bilro v Airton Cozzolino. Cozzolino on fire as always. He gets the win and easily advances in the conditions, which seem to be improving a little. Bilro was second and Paraizo was third

12.35 M R1 H7 Guilly Brandao v Theo Demanez v Woodley Hall. The local Brandao gets two big waves to give him an handsome 15.40 heat total and go to Round 3. Demanez and Hall go to Round 2.

12.10 M R1 H6 Everton Martins v Kelton Lopes v James Carew. Two-time event winner this season Carew puts down a big one to move to Round 3, while Lopes and Martins battle for their lives in Round 2.

11.45 M R1 H5 Cristiano Roehe v Clement Roseyro v Henrick Lopes. Big wave surfer Clément Roseyro grabs the win with two strong waves towards the end of the heat for a total 12.53, leaving the others to go to Round 2.

11.25 M R1 H4 Luiz Sousa v Luca Duffin v G Benetton. Great heat by Benetton to take the win with two big 8-point waves for a total of 16.43, the highest of the comp so far. he goes to R3, while the others battle in R2 again. 

10.50 W Final: Sophia Abreu v Yasmina Bujanow. Bujanow wins the final with the  biggest waves and biggest heat score of the comp, 16.10. Amazing surfing in difficult conditions.

10.34 W Mini-Final Kesiane Rodrigues v Capucine Delannoy. Delannoy wins the heat at the end and is the new world champion. She reclaims the title she lost a year ago.

10.15 M R1 H3 Hugo Marin v Sebastian Ribeiro v Nicola Abadjiev. Ribeiro wins with a big 8.13 wave, just ahead of Marin and Abadjiev, who go to round two.

09.52 W S-F2 Capucine Delannoy v Yasmina Bujanow. Another huge upset a Bujanow comes for behind to get the heat with her final wave, depriving Delannoy of a world title for now. Let’s see what happens in the next heat when Delannoy faces Rodrigues in the mini-final.

09.30 W S-F1 Sophia Abreu v Kesiane Rodrigues. Abreu, the Brazilian champion takes out Rodrigues, world ranked number two after her win in Dakhla earlier this month. Abreu goes to the final, but Rodrigues’ loss means that Capucine Delannoy becomes world champion if she wins the upcoming heat.

09.15 W R5 H4 Serena Luz v Capucine Delannoy. Number one ranked Delannoy goes through to the semi-final, overpowering Luz with an 11.47 heat score.

09.00 W R5 H3 Camille Losserand v Yasmina Bujanow. Quite an upset as the Australia-based Dane, Bujanow, gets the win with a wave late in the heat. Bujanow goes to the semi-final.

08.45 Good morning. We’re waiting for the conditions right now. But first up will be W R5 H2 Simona Schatzmann v Kesiane Rodrigues. Rodrigues advances to the semi-final with a 9.43 heat total.

06.00 Good morning. We’re hoping for a full day of wind. The skippers’ meeting is set for 06.30 with first possible start at 07.00.

14.46 R5 H1 Jalila Paulino v Sophia Abreu. Abreu scores 9.43 to take out Paulino in a tight heat.

14.30 W R4 H4 Serena Luz v Charlotte Carpentier. Luz goes forward over Carpentier.

14.25 W R4 H3 Camille Losserand v Astrid Cheylus. Losserand finds two good waves and advances over Cheylus.

14.15 W R4 H2 Simona Schatzmann v Clémence Derrien. Schatzmann just gets the win over Derrien.

13.30 W R4 H1 Daniela Moreno v Jalila Paulino. Paulino gets the win with 6.17 total.

13.15 R3 H4 Astrid Cheylus v Simona Schatzmann v Capucine Delannoy. Delannoy goes to R5 and the quarter-finals.

12.57 W R3 H3 Yasmina Bujanow v Daniela Moreno v Charlotte Carpentier. Bujanow wins with some of the best rides of the competition so far.

12.40 W R3 H2 Jalila Paulino v Serena Luz v Kesiane Rodrigues. Rodrigues just scrapes by with the win, ahead of Luz and Paulino.

12.20 W R3 H1 Sophia Abreu v Clemence Derrien v Camille Losserand. Abreu takes the win with 10.70, leaving Losserand and Derrien to fight it out.

12.00 W R2 H1 Luiza Neto v Astrid Cheylus. Cheylus gets the win with 8.03 total heat score.

11.40 W R2 H1 Jalila Paulino v Launa Saunier. Paulino takes the win with a heat total of 8.36 

11.20 W R1 H2 Jalila Paulino v Yasmina Bujanow v Astrid Cheylus. Bujanow gets a big win with a 7.33 wave.

11.00 W R1 H1 Launa Saunier v Sophia Abreu v Luiza Neto. Abreu gets the win with 13.34.

15.45 M R1 H3 Hugo Marin v Sebastian Reibeiro v Nicola Abadjiev. Heat 3 is cancelled because the wind backed off again. We’re on standby.

15.24 M R1 H2 Leonardo Grangeiro v Artur Morais v Pedro Matos. A bit of an upset there as Morais takes the win with 7.94 heat total, with Matos going to Round 2 along with Grangeiro.

15.00 Men R1 H1 Douglas Juliani v Charly Martin v Matchu Lopes. Martin takes the heat in difficult conditions of light, patchy wind and small swell and goes straight to Round 3. Lopes and Juliani go again in Round 2.

14.30 We’re still waiting for the wind. But when we come back the Race Director has deciding that the heats will be 22 minutes to give the athletes a better chance to get the waves they need as the sets are few and far between at the moment.
