WOO Big Air Challenge

Ahead of the GKA Awards in Cape Town on Friday 10th January, all kiteboarders from amateurs to pros are invited to Cape Town, South Africa for a week of chasing the wind and boosting high in the GKA Big Air: Cape Challenge 2025.   

For the inaugural year, the format is simple: all kiters have one week to record their highest kiteboarding jump at any spot in the Western Cape, South Africa. Use WOO to record your jump and you’ll be automatically added to the Brand Team of the kite you were riding. Everyone’s single highest jump counts, so it’s up to you to find the perfect kite, spot, and conditions.

Team assignment is open to everyone and set automatically by tagging your kite in the session on WOO. Chase wind, organize downwinders with your friends, demo new equipment… whatever it takes to post a big score for the brand of your choice! 

Competition Format  

Brand Team Max Height 

Location: Western Cape, South Africa 
Duration: One Week. 2nd Jan 2025 0:00 UTC – 09th Jan 2025 15:00 UTC 
Teams: Kite Brand Teams, Open to Everyone. The brand team must consist of 4 men and at least 1 woman.
Scoring: Top Five Highest Jumps by Brand Team score. One scoring jump per rider.  
Platform: Jumps are recorded with a WOO Sensor, and results are published to the WOO App 
Prize: 1st Place Team Trophy presented at the GKA Awards 2025. Free entry to GKA Awards and After-party for the top five riders on the first, second, and third place Brand Teams.

Prizes Details 

The Big Air Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the top brand team at the GKA Awards on Friday, January 10, 2025. The trophy is “Perpetual”, meaning it will engraved with this year’s winner and then passed on to the winning team of the next GKA Big Air Challenge. 
 
GKA Award Show and After-party entry will be waived for the five scoring riders in the top three teams. 

For Brands 

All kite brands are encouraged to nominate a Team Captain for the event. This captain will receive a WOO Demo kit for their team and encourage media coverage of their team. We also encourage the brands to encourage their pro team riders and their community in Cape Town to participate.  

As a brand, you can organize demo days and meet-ups throughout the event window to bring together kiters and contribute to your team’s score.  

Each brand representative will receive a WOO Demo Kit to help the team participate in the challenge.  

We will publish updates and features on the participating teams and kiters together with the GKA and WOO media teams.
